Deals Looking for that perfect Father’s Day pres…
Looking for that perfect Father’s Day present for yourself. Well I have a recommendation of a gift so manly your wife will think she married Grizzly Adams. Cigar.com is offering a really great deal on a XiKar cutter, 5 Graycliff cigars (two reds, two blues, and one white) and a travel Herf A Dor.
Someone bought this for me as a Christmas gift this past year and I can tell you everything you get is first class. The cutter has a lifetime unconditional warranty, the Herf A Dor was recently “borrowed” for a trip to the T4G conference and sealed so tight on the plane the two people who “borrowed” it had to pry it open with a key. And of course the White and Blue Graycliffs are both in my Top 10 cigar picks. You will have to shell out $80 bucks, but you have bought $80 dollars worth of top quality goodness. If you have never had the opportunity to try a Graycliff then you have missed out, and I doubt you run across many deals like this. Usually these 5 cigars alone would run about $100 bucks.
Carlos Torano Signature Series

When I first chose to purchase one of these fine cigars it was a recommendation of Amar who happens to own the best cigar shop in Orange County, CA. He had just gotten these in and had not had a chance to smoke them himself. However, they were receiving extremely high ratings from everyone who had smoked them. 9.5 out of 10, low to mid 90’s were just some of the many numbers these smokes were producing. They retailed for around $5.50 so I decided I would give it a try.
My first impression of this cigar was incredible. The taste is exceptional. The Carlos Torano Signature is a medium to full bodied cigar with an earthy flavor with some coffeesque notes. It is surrounded by a Brazilian Maduro wrapper and sweet, creamy finish that made me think, “Hey this is worth another shot.” For flavor I have to give this cigar a 90 at least. It just tastes good. I immediately went out and purchased 5 of these in various sizes. While the taste remained the same for all 5, the quality did not. I understand that I may have run into some flook of shipping, but of the 5 I purchased only two were consistent all around, and they did not all come from the same box. One had such a hard draw that it couldn’t be smoked even after using a tool to punch a hole through the cigar. Another came completely apart, and the third was wrapped so loosed and burned so hot it became hard to finish. Let me stress that I believe trying one of these cigars is worth the risk. Again, they taste great, but who knows about the consistency. I am sure someone out there will call me crazy and say that I did something to mess them up, but I know how to keep cigars. Overall Carlos Torano makes a fine cigar, but I didn’t have great luck with these.
A Look Into My Humidor

Over the last several months I seldom walk into a smoke shop. While I want to support these local vendors the taxes that they are forced to pay and pass on to me make it hard for them to compete with the current internet business. If I am wanting to try a new cigar then I may step into a humidor, but that is happening less and less.
What I have personally discovered is it takes more than one cigar for me to decide if I like it or not. Consistency is very important in my book, and I have had some good first cigars that didn’t hold up on the second or third.
That being the case I was glad to discover cigarbid.com. If you are patient you can try cigars in five packs for prices you will never beat anywhere. I recently bought a 5 pack of the Graycliff Crystal series 6.5X50 for 32 dollars. These puppies retail for 25 a stick. Patience at cigarbid.com will save you a ton of cash. You can try a new cigar with a 5 pack that will usually run you only 2 or 3 times what one cigar would cost at a local smoke shop. This is not Ebay, so it is not flooded with traffic. Pick your choice and then try and find one with the most available to bid on. This seems to keep the price down. Happy bidding, and if you see “SH from Wildomar” beside a bid don’t run up the price.

5 Vegas Series ‘A’

5 Vegas Series ‘A’

Over the last couple of years I have had the opportunity to enjoy some fine, rare, expensive cigars. Some, given as gifts, retail for more than $40 dollars. Recently I even enjoyed a Cuban Cohiba that I will review at a later date. So it may seem strange that my first review on this site is less than $3 bucks a stick.
The 5 Vegas ‘A’ is deserves the first review on this site. With its dark, slightly vieny, Costa Rican, maduro, wrapper this cigar will soon begin to bump something from your current Top 10 list. I am currently about 12 cigars into a box of the 6.0 x 50 Archetypes and this is one of the most consistent cigars I have ever smoked. It is extremely well constructed with zero wrapper or draw issues up to this point. Creamy and earthy with a few unique flavors this cigar will keep your attention right up to the point where it burns your fingers. The 4.5 x 54 Limited Release Atomic has room for an extra leaf that makes enough difference to almost justify buying two sizes.
However, the best part of this cigar is the price. At $65 to $75 dollars a box you can’t beat it. Unfortunately you can’t find this brand a very many local vendors, but you can pick up a five pack of the Atomics for $19 bucks at most internet sites. If you go that route though I would say you will regret not purchasing an entire box.
Because in my world price matters I am going to rate this cigar a 93

In this opening post of Cigar Reviews I thought I might state a few helpful tips. When reviewing cigars I do actually use a formula. However, unlike other reviews sites I am not trying to sell anything. Therefore I factor in some things others may not such as price and availability. Obviously taste gets a higher percentage than appearence, but a high price might drive a cigar rating down if it is not significantly better than a comparable cheaper cigar.
I will be honest and tell you what I like and what I don’t like. Of course my tastes may not always match yours, but that is one of the things that makes cigar smoking great. I hope this site helps you save some money and find a great smoke. Enjoy cigar reviews.
